A priest from Glodeni district was arrested on suspicion that he attempted to sexually assault a minor. Contacted by IPN for details, secretary of the Metropolitan Church of Moldova Vadim Cheibaș said that a reaction will be provided when the investigation into this case is over. “This is a regrettable and outrageous case,” he stated.

Eugenia Molchanov, press officer of the Glodeni Police Inspectorate, said the police were notified of an attempted rape in a village of the district on July 24. No details can be yet provided so as not to encroach on the rights of the minor.

Mariana Cherpec, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office, said that a criminal case was started over use of sexual violence against a person who didn’t turn 14.

“The suspect was placed under arrest for 72 hours. Correspondingly, after indicting the person, prosecutors asked the court to issue an arrest warrant for a 30-day period. The request is to be examined today,” stated Mariana Cherpec.
