Priest Ioan Ciuntu: Christmas is a reason to rejoice regardless of the date of celebration

Orthodox Christians who celebrate Christmas on December 25 will go church this morning to attend the Liturgy, pray for the health of their close ones and praise God. They will bring homemade Christmas bagels for blessing and will leave them under icons or will give them to carol singers.

“The Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ is a reason to rejoice for all Christians. Although there are still many debates about the date of celebration – December 25 or January 7, the most important on this day is to be kind and friendly”, archpriest Ioan Ciuntu, parson of “St. Theodora of Sihla” Church told IPN.

He encouraged everyone to be nicer, to help those who are troubled or alone, the children in orphanages and the elderly people in nursing homes, and this, he says, can make society change for the better. The priest advised the believers to celebrate wholeheartedly with honesty and goodwill, leaving aside the worries of the earthly life. The Christmas has always meant peace and grace.

Priest Ioan Cosoi, administrative vicar of the Metropolitan Church of Basarabia, told IPN that there are three churches in Chisinau celebrating the Christmas on December 25: “St. Theodora of Sihla”, “St. Apostles Peter and Paul” and “The Holy Trinity”. Additionally, there are five churches in districts celebrating the Nativity as per the Gregorian Calendar.
