The prices of food products in May rose by 2.9% on April, while of non-food products by 0.4%. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, potatoes grew dearer by 51.6%, dry onion by 61.8%, while carrots by 30.1%, IPN reports.
The prices of sugar beet increased by 18.2%, of fresh fruit by 13.0%, of hen eggs by 4.2%, of fresh and frozen fish by 2.6%, while of meat and meat products by 1.4%.
However, the prices of some of the fresh vegetables decreased in May. Cucumbers got cheaper by 14.8%, tomatoes by 10.7%, pumpkins by 2.4%, mushrooms by 1.9%, while cabbage by 0.8%.
Statistics show that the prices of swimming suits for ladies, dresses, clothes for children, summer shoes, detergents, medicines, and construction materials went up. At the same time, the prices of wood for fire and of coal fell by 0.2% and, respectively, 0.1%.
