Presidium of People’s Assembly of Gagauzia calls extraordinary meeting

The presidium of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia will convene an extraordinary meeting of the legislative body so as to condemn a decision taken by the Government of Moldova. The region’s Bashkan, the members of the executive committee, the mayors and heads of local councils will be invited to it. According to a statement of the presidium, on February 15 the Government decided to create a working group to examine the legislation on the special status of the Autonomous Territorial Unit, IPN reports.

The Parliament of Moldova is requested to bring the national legislation in compliance with the Law on the Special Legal Status of Gagauzia, while the ministries are asked to reexamine or abrogate the normative documents that run counter to this law.

The presidium of the People’s Assembly said they already saw the materials prepared by the working group without consulting representatives of Gagauzia. The authority condemns central authorities’ attempts to liquidate the special powers and rights of the autonomy.

Lawmakers Alexandru Stoianoglo, Irina Vlah, Oleg Garizan, and Petru Vlah were also invited to the extraordinary meeting.
