President's judicial compensation almost halved by taxes
With all tax deductions calculated, Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti will receive 241,553 lei of the 400,000 lei payout granted by the Superior Council of Magistracy in compensation for his resignation from the judiciary, the presidential press service reported.
It was earlier reported that under the Law on Judicial Status judges are allowed a one-off compensation upon resignation in an amount equal to the average monthly salary multiplied by the number of full years worked as a judge. Nicolae Timofti had worked for 35 years in the judiciary before being elected President.
Counting Nicolae Timofti's payout, the Superior Council of Magistracy has offered a total 793,000 lei in compensation to five judges in seven months of this year.
