President’s involvement in Transnistrian conflict gives hope things will be taken more seriously, analyst

Coordination is needed in the Transnistrian issue and if Acting President Marian Lupu takes this role it is good, political analyst Vitali Catana stated for Info-Prim Neo after the July 12 meeting of the Supreme Security Council, whose agenda included the Transnistrian dispute. ”The civil society experts contributed to the formulation of the existing documents, but actions have not been taken yet,” said Vitali Catana. According to the analyst, the fact that Marian Lupu became involved gives hope that things will be taken more seriously and there are many aspects to be considered and agreed. Now the steps taken, including at football matches, are chaotic and do not form part of a coherent plan of action. “Transnistria must be democratized, because we cannot accept reintegration through Moldova’s ‘transnistrization’,” said Vitali Catana. He also said that ideas can be identified and should be included in a project with the participation of civil society as the ministries do not have the necessary experience, to his mind. After the Supreme Security Council’s meeting held on July 12, Head of Parliament Marian Lupu announced that the Council members have a common position on how the Transnistrian conflict should be resolved and this is important. He stressed that the Transnistrian issue will be included in the agenda depending on the results achieved in the negotiation process. The Supreme Security Council is a consultative body under the President of Moldova.
