President Nicolae Timofti will take a decision as regards the nomination of a candidate for Prime Minister by the evening of January 14.
Contacted by IPN, Ion Paduraru, secretary general of the President’s staff, said the deadline by which the parliamentary majority was to propose another candidate for premiership expired at 12 noon, but the head of state can take a decision by the end of the day.
On January 13, Nicolae Timofti rejected the Democratic Party’s candidate for premiership Vlad Plahotniuc for the reason that this does not meet the integrity criteria.
The parliamentary majority didn’t accept the President’s arguments and fielded Vlad Plahotniuc repeatedly. Plahotniuc even sent a letter to the head of state where he says he is ready to sign an integrity statement if he is nominated as Prime Minister.
