The presidential elections will involve a lot of contenders who will have the role of attracting votes from the center-right segment, considers Liberal-Democratic MP Vadim Pistrinciuc. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, quoted by IPN, the lawmaker said the direct election of the head of state is what the population wants.
“I understand that there are probably a lot of subtleties and the campaign can be won by a person who does not want good to the Republic of Moldova. But it is a chance, including for the right. It is a chance for those who struggled for the direct presidential elections to take place. If reason prevails, including among the parties of the right, not the political ambitions, I think this chance can be taken to stabilize, at least for the beginning, the power in the Republic of Moldova, with all the possible controversies,” said the MP.
According to Vadim Pistrinciuc, if choosing between the possibility of the nontransparent election of a President, based on a very suspicious political deal in Parliament, and the surprising decision of the Constitutional Court, the direct election of the head of state is yet better.
“We want the state and the state institutions not to be fully at the disposal of a party or a man or this alliance that was already formed. Things are rather confused. We must be very reasonable and act based on sensible calculations, not emotions or political and party egoism. We, as a party, will win a lot if we manage to dilute the hegemonic power of the Democratic Party and its first deputy chairman, who fuels this party. This will be a rather big victory for us,” stated Vadim Pistrinciuc.
The MP also said that he does not know which the best scenario for the presidential elections is – one or several candidates of the right – but the Liberal Democratic Party will analyze things thoroughly so as to find the best solution.
