Moldova’s President will dissolve Parliament if the Government is not formed within three months and if the law adoption procedure is blocked for the same period. The Constitutional Court pronounced on the issue based on an application filed by unaffiliated MP Sergiu Sarbu.
The lawmaker has told IPN that he asked the Constitutional Court to interpret the word ‘can’ from the Constitution, which had an ambiguous meaning. “After these three months, the head of state not only has the right, but is also obliged to dissolve Parliament,” said Sergiu Sarbu, referring to the Constitutional Court’s decision.
The MP said that in spring there was a situation when it was unclear when Parliament should be dissolved if the Government is not voted in, as the word ‘can’ caused ambiguity.
