President Voronin finds improving situation on Prut, floods threaten still on Nistru
Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin finds the situation is improving on the Prut river, while the floods still threaten certain segments on the Nistru, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from a presidential communiqué issued later on Saturday. The President has made the conclusions after inspecting the situation from a military helicopter.
The Prut water is slightly getting down. On the Nistru, the water is moderate down to the Dubasari dam, yet it is increasing below, on the Dubasari-Olanesti segment.
The President hasn’t missed the opportunity to visit the Padurea Domneasca Natural Reservation and was told there the European bisons begot the first calf after they were brought there three years ago.
Info-Prim Neo’s sources say the dam near Slobozia town (Nistru’s left bank) has broken later on Saturday.
The president of the Dignitas association from Slobozia, Ghenadie Taran, says the dam broke at about 20.00 because of freshets coming down on the Nistru. The town’s stadium was flooded immediately, as the water reached the upper bar of the football goals.
Taran says 4 vehicles try to restore the dam.
