President Vladimir Voronin is trusted less, according to the Omnibus opinion poll conducted by the Institute for Marketing and Surveys (IMAS). However, the approval rating of his presidency is higher compared to his disapproval mark. Although in the first half of 2006 Voronin was trusted by 55% of the population, recent polls report a regressive trend – down to 51%. Director of IMAS, Doru Petruti stated on Wednesday, November 29 at the poll’s launching that this fact proves the erosion of the government, because regressive trends can also be ascertained in the case of other politicians representing the government party, such as Vasile Tarlev and Eugenia Ostapciuc. At the same time the polls show a 1-2% increase in Marian Lupu’s popularity every three months. Asked who they would vote for if the Election Day were tomorrow, one third of the respondents opted for the Communist Party, 5.4% - for “Moldova Noastra” Alliance, 5% - for the People’s Christian Democrat Party, 3.9% - for the Democrat Party, 2.3% - for the Social-Democrat Party etc. At the same time, half of the respondents were uncertain. Only 14% of the questioned persons said they are pleased with the economic situation, whilst almost 60% are not pleased with country’s state. At the same time, one third of the persons have very high expectations as regards the standard of life for the next year. Particularly, this fact is justified by the supplementary earnings to the basic wage and by the remittances wired by the relatives working abroad. The optimism of the population as for the life standard rises every three months by 4%, Petruti said. The Omnibus polls are carried out every three months and involve a sample of 1100 persons interviewed across the Republic of Moldova. Created in 1992, IMAS Marketing and Surveys performed several market researches and studies in politics, society and media. The National Audience Study, Political Opinion Barometer and the Omnibus are several permanent studies the aforementioned institution produces.
