Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti has proposed Parliament to consider the candidature of Mihai Balan for the post of director of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS), the President's Office announced in a press release. In diplomatic service since 1990, Mihai Balan is now serving as Moldova's Ambassador to Israel. Mihai Balan graduated from the Moldova State University's journalism department in 1979. In 1992 he attended diplomatic courses at the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and three years later he attended diplomatic courses at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Also, in 2002 Balan attended courses at the European Center for Security Studies “George Marshall” in Garmisch, Germany. Mihai Balan is fluent in English and Russian.
