President Nicolae Timofti dismissed the accusations against him that are contained in the assertions made by the leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu as groundless, describing them as a method of exerting pressure with the aim of influencing his decision about the nomination for premiership, IPN reports.

In an interview, Marian Lupu said that when the Democrats went to the head of state and told him there are votes for voting in the Premier and forming a pro-European government, this proposed a candidate that will not garner more than ten votes. According to Lupu, this means that the President is consciously throwing the country into a comprehensive crisis and is endangering it. Ion Sturza is the disguised proposal of the PLDM, not of the President. The problem resides yet not in Sturza, but in the PLDM and President Timofti, who, even if such a game is played, will practically throw the country into total chaos.

On the other hand, the presidential press service said that Nicolae Timofti on December 14 had a meeting with leaders of the Democratic Party, who tried to convince him to designate the PDM’s ex-first deputy chairman Vladimir Plahotniuc as Premier. “The President realizes that the statements denigrating him, disseminated recently by the media, and the pickets at the presidential residencies represent elements of pressure exerted on the head of state and infringement of his constitutional right to nominate a candidate for premiership,” it is said in the service’s press release.

President Timofti calls on the parliamentary parties to mobilize with a view to forming a ruling alliance that would vote in a functional pro-European government in the nearest future and to abandon the political games, which are not a solution in the current difficult situation faced by the Republic of Moldova.
