The formula by which President Igor Dodon was suspended from office is not equitable in a state with the rule of law, the jurist of the Party of Socialists Fadei Nagachevski was quoted by IPN as saying in a TV program.

According to him, in 2017 the Constitutional Court requested Parliament to regulate the political accountability of the President of the Republic of Moldova in a democratic manner, but the legislature did nothing in this regard, delegitimizing the Court and also deinstitutionalizing the presidential institution. “I do not understand why they attack the presidential institution when the stability of the post is the basic principle,” stated the jurist of the PSRM.

Expert Ion Tăbârță noted President Igor Dodon now acts politically rather than institutionally. “He knows very well that he will not be subject to impeachment for these acts and thus dares to act so,” he stated. According to the expert, the suspension procedure suits the President who this way gains particular political advantages, but is also convenient for the parliamentary majority that names suitable persons to particular posts.

Constitutional law expert Vitali Catană said given that President Igor Dodon accepted the removal of the previous ministers, but refused to appoint the candidates proposed by the Premier, the Constitutional Court held that the Head of State refused to fulfil his obligations and that the suspension is the only method of avoiding an institutional blockage.
