President Nicolae Timofti said that he will sign the decree to nominate the candidate for Prime Minister when he is ready to do it. He admitted that the parties may field no candidates for this post, IPN reports.
“I will propose a candidate when I’m ready. That’s why I have consultations with the factions. The terms are respected. It’s not excluded that no candidate will be put forward, but I think that the parties are interested in fielding candidates,” the head of state said after the first round of separate consultations with the PLDM, PDM and PL on May 7.
As to the set of laws adopted by the votes of the Communist and Liberal-Democratic lawmakers last week, Nicolae Timofti stated that he is waiting for them to reach the Presidential Office. “I will study them and will decide which one to promulgate and which not. I have an opinion on the changes to the Law on the Constitutional Court. I think the immunity of judges cannot be diminished. But I must see authors’ arguments to be able to pronounce,” said the head of state.
He also said that he discussed this issue with European officials. “They are concerned the most about the amendments to the Law on the Constitutional Court. I had a discussion with Moister Jean-Claude Mignon (President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe) and he told me that the basic human rights must be obeyed in Moldova,” said Nicolae Timofti.
He underlined that from the discussions with the European officials he understood that the talks on the Association Agreement with the EU are in danger and everything depends on the politicians who can create the future Government of Moldova.
