President Sandu seeks temporary restrictions on export of wheat

President Maia Sandu requested the Government to impose temporary restrictions on the export of wheat from the state reserves. The request was made following reports about the risks related to the export of wheat from the state reserves, IPN reports.

“I ask the Government to act immediately so as to ensure the country’s food security. I will also notify the Prosecutor General’s Office of potential cases of involvement of state institutions in the sale of state reserves with damage done to the country and the citizens,” said President Sandu.

She noted that in times of a crisis, when the economy is weakened and the farmers are affected by drought, the state should correctly manage the food risks and should make sure that the country is sufficiently provided with food products.

Following notifications from residents of Gura Camencii village of Florești district, representatives of the Party “Democracy at Home” went to the local wheat storehouse. As the people said, the wheat from the state reserves is sold for 4.5 lei/kg and is transported by trucks to the Giurgiulești Port.
