President Maia Sandu noted she is not against the Russian vaccine Sputnik-V and considers the people should be offered the possibility of choosing from among several types of COVID-19 vaccines. In a live dialogue with the Moldovan diaspora in Germany, Maia Sandu said she wants all the types of vaccines that are brought to the country to be safe for the Moldovan citizens, IPN reports.
“I’m spending a lot of time trying to obtain access to the vaccine. Until now we managed to obtain donations through the COVAX platform, so that the vaccines come faster, and a Romanian donation. We are grateful for these. By the end of this month, we will get another almost 100,000 doses of vaccine that are on the way and I hope the vaccination process will be accelerated,” stated Maia Sandu.
She noted that they are discussing also the next consignments of vaccines that are expected to come in April and discussions are held with all the partners, including the Embassy of Russia, as regards the Russian vaccine. “We do not place any hindrance. On the contrary. There is a lot of disinformation and there are many lies that are spread by particular political figures as they want to gather political support based on this subject. But this is improper as it goes to people’s lives and the swifter we get vaccines, the higher will be the number of saved lives,” stated Maia Sandu.
Asked if quarantine will be instituted on Easter, President Sandu said it is hard to say how the situation will be like given the rising number of infections and deaths associated with COVID-19. It is now important to stop the spread of the virus, but this depends on everyone, including on the Government’s actions. Maia Sandu voiced hope that the situation will improve until Easter so that the Moldovans from outside the country could return home to see their relatives and families.
