President Maia Sandu has requested the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) to start an evaluation of Alexandr Stoianoglo’s job as Prosecutor General, the President’s Office said in a press release.
The evaluation has been made possible by legislative amendments adopted in August. Under the new rules, an evaluation commission is set up, reporting to the CSP. If CSP finds the results to be negative, it may recommend the President to dismiss the Prosecutor General.
Meanwhile, Alexandr Stoianoglo – who is suspended from office while under investigation on charges of abuse of office, perjury and facilitation of crime – remains under house arrest for another 30 days, as ordered today by the Ciocana District Court. Stoianoglo denies any wrongdoing and says the case against him is politically motivated.
