"We are proud to be part of the Francophone family, a community of over 300 million speakers from all over the world," President Maia Sandu said on the occasion of the International Francophonie Day marked on March 20. The head of state noted that the Republic of Moldova marks this day by reaffirming its commitment to the common values of the Francophone space – democracy, cultural diversity and dialogue between peoples, IPN reports.
In her message of appreciation for the French-speaking community and for all those who promote the French language in Moldova, President Sandu said that it is gratifying that children in Moldova learn and love the French language. It is a bridge to new opportunities and friendships around the world.
Over 100,000 students in the Republic of Moldova study French in the country's educational institutions.
The Republic of Moldova has been a member of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) since 1997 and actively cooperates with Francophone states and institutions to develop education, promote culture and support economic initiatives.
The International Organization of La Francophonie brings together 88 states and governments, promoting political, cultural and educational cooperation between Francophone communities around the world.
