President Sandu demands mechanisms to simplify procedure for obtaining unemployment benefit

President Maia Sandu requested to swiftly work out mechanisms that would simplify the procedure for obtaining unemployment benefit and other forms of assistance so that these are provided to more persons in difficulty, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.

In a meeting involving decision makers of a number of institutions responsible for assisting persons and the economic sector, which involved acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi, President Sandu asked for information about the taken and planned measures aimed at supporting those who remained without incomes after losing the job, about the mechanisms for supporting SMEs and the relevant actions planned for this year.

According to recent estimates, tens of thousands of Moldovans in 2020 fell below the poverty line owing to the pandemic. 2020 brought a number of SMEs into difficulty and these had to diminish their activity, respectively the number of employs, or to shut down. “In the absence of a fully-fledged government, it is the duty of these institutions to identify solutions to help the people and the small and medium-sized businesses,” stated Maia Sandu.

The meeting also discussed the swifter implementation of the mechanism for subsidizing enterprises that employ persons with disabilities, the young people and persons who lost their jobs at home or abroad owing to the pandemic.
