President Maia Sandu calls on the Prosecutor General’s Office to inform society comprehensively and on time about the procedures applied in the case of the suspended Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo and to present information about the reasons why 30 days’ arrest were asked and about other measures requested by the prosecutor in charge of the case, by strictly obeying the law, IPN reports.
The official noted that maximum transparency is needed in this case, as in all the other cases. The hiding of information and commission of any abuses are unacceptable.
“The case of Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo is of major interest for the whole society and we must make sure that it is treated with maximum responsibility. That’s why we need more clarity in the processes that happen now at the Prosecutor General’s Office and about the actions taken by prosecutors. The citizens’ trust in this institution depends on the efficiency of its activity and on the correctness and transparency of procedures,” stated Maia Sandu.
The suspended Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo was placed under arrest for 72 hours on charges of abuse of power, misconduct in office, passive corruption and falsehood. Yesterday, the prosecutor in charge of the case Victor Furtună asked for 30 days’ arrest for Stoianoglo. The request is to be examined by the Ciocana Court today, October 8.
