President orders commission to probe April 7 events in Chisinau
A state commission has been designated by the President to probe the events of April 7 and 8, the Presidency announces in a release quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
The commission is charged “to draft measures to prevent anti-constitutional actions and to eliminate their consequences,” the communique reads.
Vladimir Voronin appointed Communist parliamentarian Vladimir Turcan to head the commission. It joins 15 officials: the president of the Science Academy, Gheorghe Duca; Communist deputy speaker Maria Postoico; health minister Larisa Catrinici; education and youth minister Larisa Şavga, constructions ministry Vladimir Baldovici; info development minister Pavel Buceatchi; justice minister Vitalie Parlog. There are also two journalists in this commission: the editor-in-chief of pro-Communist newspaper Moldova Suverana, Ion Berlinski, and the manager of a company “Obiectiv Media Group”, Alexandr Petkov.
Other members are the director of the Political Studies European Institute, Viorel Cibotaru; the chairman of the Rectors Association, Ion Bostan; the chairman of the Students Organizations Council, Eugeniu Popovici; the chairman of the senate of the Sports University Irina Garbuz; the co-chairman of the Council of Ethnic-Cultural Organizations, Petru Dontov, and the president of the Transnistrian Students Associations “Astra”, Dmitry Bilan.
