The President of Romania Klaus Iohannis will make a visit to Chisinau on December 29, at the invitation of President Maia Sandu. This will be the first high-level visit to Chisinau after the investiture of Maia Sandu as President, IPN reports.
According to the Romanian President’s agenda, the ceremony to welcome him officially at the Presidential Palace will be held at 11:30am and will be followed by tête-à-tête meetings at 11:45am. Official discussions will start at 12:30om, with the participation of the two delegations. Common statements for the press will be made at 1:05pm.
The Romanian presidential press service said Klaus Iohannis’s visit to Chisinau will offer the framework for transmitting a powerful message of support for the new President of the Republic of Moldova in a historical moment for Moldova’s European course and also a message of support for the Moldovan citizens.
The topics for discussion during the visit will include Romania’s support for the Moldovan citizens, including in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and assistance in supporting the economic and social development of the Republic of Moldova.
The two Presidents are to adopt a joint statement aimed at strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership, reaffirming the special relationship between Bucharest and Chisinau on the tenth anniversary in 2020 of the signing of the Strategic Partnership for the European Integration of the Republic of Moldova.
Contacted by IPN for a comment, the Moldovan presidential administration confirmed that the visit will be paid, noting that a press release with details of the program of the visit will be soon issued.
