The Supreme Council of Magistrates accepted the request of Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin to suspend Ion Cazacu, who is being investigated for passive corruption, from the post of president of the Glodeni District Court. The judge will remain suspended until a definitive court decision is passed in his case, IPN reports.

The judge was arrested inside the Glodeni Court on April 16, immediately after he took the 10,000 lei bribe offered by a defendant. In exchange for this money, the judge was to acquit the defendant of committing a road accident while driving under the influence.

The prosecutor general argued that if the judge continues to work as court president, he can hinder the competent bodies from discovering the truth during the investigation and can negatively influence the image of justice.

The judge was put under house arrest, under a decision issued by the primary Buiucani court. The prosecutors appealed this decision to the Appeals Court, asking that the judge be remanded in custody.

Also today, April 29, at the suggestion of the Disciplinary Board, the Supreme Council of Magistrates suspended the Orhei judge Vasile Selevestru from post for disciplinary deviations.
