President of Glodeni Court arrested for taking bribe

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anticorruption Center announced that the president of the Glodeni District Court was arrested in the act of taking 10,000 lei bribe from a culprit, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, in exchange for this sum the offender was to be acquitted of causing a road accident while driving under the influence. Within the investigation, there were documented the acts of both the corruptible judge and the person who offered the bribe. Both were put under arrest for 72 hours.

At the start of April, for the first time in Moldova a judge was jailed for corruption acts. The judge from Telenesti, who was arrested last October after he took US$200 from the lawyer of a party in a civil lawsuit, was sentenced to seven years behind bars and was fined 160,000 lei. He will also be unable to hold public posts for a period of 10 years.
