President Nicolae Timofti showed himself more active only towards the end of his term, said experts invited to the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Political analyst Corneliu Ciurea believes that Nicolae Timofti’s biggest merit was the fact that he avoided confrontations when the Filip Government was voted. “The President’s behavior towards the end of term counted for many people. He managed to avoid the nomination of a dangerous candidate for the premiership, who is Vladimir Plahotniuc. There was a kind of fear then, especially among the analysts, that the confrontations between the two camps will intensify. Nicolae Timofti managed to bring these conformations to an end and did well in this respect,” he stated.

Media analyst Cristian Tabara also considers that Nicolae Timofti made himself noticed more towards the end of his term. “Timofti’s term in office was marked by the so-called muteness of the President. He showed himself useful on the last 100 meters only. Now that Nicolae Timofti will hold office on an interim basis until a new President is elected, he should provide consultations about the Head of State’s powers and assert thus himself,” he said.

Nicolae Timofti’s term in office expired on March 23. He will hold office ad interim until a new Head of State is elected. Voices in Parliament said the presidential elections will most probably take place this autumn.
