The President of Moldova Igor Dodon is liable to prosecution for money laundering, passive corruption, abuse of power or abuse of authority, excess of power and appropriation of foreign funds and the prosecutor general should take legal action against him, in accordance with the Penal Code, the leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) Andrei Nastase was quoted by IPN as saying.
Andrei Nastase told a news conference that President Igor Dodon flagrantly violated the Law on the Activity of the President of the Republic of Moldova, the Law on Transparency in the Decision-Making Process and the Law on Public Procurement. In this connection, the PPPDA addressed a number of public calls to the coercive bodies and decision makers, including the President’s Office and the State Chancellery, to shed light on the reconstruction of the presidential villa in Condrita and the repair of the Presidential Building situated on Stefan cel Mare Blvd in Chisinau, the two buildings being public property.
The PPPDA leader said that under the Law on the Activity of the President of Moldova, the costs for implementing the given law are covered with funds from the President’s Office and the State Chancellery, which are earmarked in the state budget. So, the current legislation does not offer possibilities of attracting other funds.
“We can deduce from the dry and evasive statements made by the President that the presidential villa in Condrita and the Presidential Building on Stefan cel Mare Blvd were also repaired with extra-budgetary funds of a doubtful origin. According to Igor Dodon, the repair works at the Presidential Building are financed by Turkey. But no international agreement on the issue was approved, ratified and published, in accordance with the law,” said Andrei Nastase, noting that the official websites of the Public Procurement Agency, the State Chancellery and the presidential administration contain no information about the reconstruction works at the villa in Condrita and at the Presidential Building.
Andrei Nastase also said that given that the state is captured, the prosecution service is politically controlled and the prosecutor general is appointed by order, they call on the honest prosecutors and officers of the Prosecutor General’s Office and, respectively, the National Anticorruption Center to examine the situation and to take legal action over the aforementioned.
