President Igor Dodon said that he does not want the elections to be put off, but if the epidemiological situation requires, a compromise decision will be needed. “I want the elections to take place in autumn, as it was planned, on November 1, but, evidently, if the epidemiological situation does not allow us to, we will have to come together in Parliament and reach a compromise decision to postpone the elections, related to the state of emergency,” President Dodon said in a new edition of the program “President Responds” that was held at the Residence in Condrița on July 24, IPN reports.
As regards the conditions in which the elections will be held, Igor Dodon said the Venice Commission’s opinion on the bill to amend the Election Code, which was given a first reading, is awaited. If the opinion is positive, the law could be adopted in the final reading until September and the elections will be held according to new conditions. Or the previous norms will be applied.
As to the diaspora, the official said Chisinau will be ready to establish not fewer polling stations than at the previous elections. But some countries can refuse to establish polling places during the state of emergency. “We will yet establish as many polling stations as necessary,” stated Igor Dodon.
