President Igor Dodon declares himself in opposition to government

Igor Dodon said he will not cooperate with the Filip Government and the parliamentary alliance and will use any occasion to cause early parliamentary elections. The statement was made in the program “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

“I do not form part of this government. It will be hard to come to terms. I do not agree with many of their so-called reforms. But we cannot storm the barricades and fight. It will be a dialogue, but there will be no cooperation,” said the Head of State.

Igor Dodon noted that if he is blocked by the parliamentary alliance, he will come up with initiatives to amend the Constriction. “We will initiate referendums and will ask to widen the President’s prerogatives. We will ask the people how to act,” he stated.

The President also said that if the Filip Government is dismissed, he will field no other candidate for premiership. “The dismissal of the Filip Government will mean early elections. I will use this prerogative and will cause early elections. I promised early parliamentary elections to the voters. Nobody will force me to propose one candidate or another,” stated Igor Dodon.

He also aims to dismiss Eduard Harunjen from the post of prosecutor general. “There are a number of solutions for annulling this decree. We must see what the consequences are. I’m sure that one of these solutions will be applied in the near future. This prosecutor must be discharged. We will organize a new contest to choose the prosecutor general,” he said.
