President hands over state flag to Olympic team competing in European Games

President Maia Sandu has handed over the state flag to the Olympic team that will represent Moldova at the European Games in Poland. Also today, awards were offered to the canoeists Serghei Tarnovschi and Oleg Tarnovschi who won medals at last year’s World Championships.

“Moldova has people who bring us worldwide fame and who ensure that the country’s flag is raised triumphantly at the most important championships. Behind the athletes’ moments of glory are thousands of hours of grueling training and the people who support them: family, coaches, teachers, doctors, massage therapists. With their efforts, these athletes inspire children and young people, who want to follow in their footsteps”, said the president.

Maia Sandu noted that at the European Games in Krakow-Małopolska there will be a fierce competition between 7000 well-trained athletes and she wished perseverance and success to the 85 Moldovan athletes participating.

“Dear athletes, we are grateful to you for the sense of pride that overwhelms us when the national anthem is played at sports competitions. You not only collect victories in your trophy cases, but contribute to the creation of a stronger state and to paving our way in the family of European countries”, declared Maia Sandu.
