An apolitical President who will not assume responsibilities under agreements could upset the whole political system, considers Moldova's Acting President Marian Lupu, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the program “In PROfunzime” on ProTV Chisinau on Monday evening, Marian Lupu said a person who is not a party member and did not make commitments can act in a way that will upset the whole political system and this is a great risk to political stability. “Isn't this the goal pursued by the Communists Party?” he asked. Marian Lupu said that if the PCRM does not want to vote for the candidate for head of state proposed by the ruling alliance, they should put forward their own candidate. Asked who he thinks is the best candidate for this post, Marian Lupu said this should be a cooperative and flexible person and if the Opposition fields a better candidate than he there will be discussions. “The head of state is not only a representative person. He plays a role depending on the political configuration. The election of the President should not be considered a bargain of the Democratic Party with the Opposition. It is an element of the general construction,” he said. An apolitical President is the condition imposed by the PCRM. The Communists also say that they will start the talks on the matter only when the date of elections is set. Last week, the Communist lawmakers signed a document, pledging to vote only in the interests of the party and the people. Political analysts said this gesture shows there is lack of trust within the Communist parliamentary group.
