President-elect Maia Sandu requested the authorities to consider the possibility of covering the costs of treatment received by persons with mild forms of COVID-19 at home, from the mandatory health insurance funds, and to urgently adjust the 240 beds at the hospital in Vorniceni for treating persons with COVID-19, IPN reports.
In a press briefing, Maia Sandu said the pandemic situation in the Republic of Moldova is critical. The number of infections and deaths continues to rise. The health system is exhausted. The hospitals are packed and do not have sufficient medicines, while the patients with COVID-19 and also those with other diseases do not have access to medical services.
The President-elect requested the Government, when examining the health budget for 2021, to include better insurance for the health system, for treating COVID-19 and complications caused by the infection, and for other programs that, under the pandemic pressure in 2020, remained without attention, like planned oncological, surgical treatment. Sufficient financing should be also provided for motivating the medical personnel.
Maia Sandu noted it is important that the people protect themselves and make common cause with those around. “We can overcome this difficult situation only by responsibility and kindness,” she said, urging the people to wear masks for the sake of older persons, of persons with health problems and to put off the celebrations.
The President-elect transmitted her message also in the Russian language.
