President Dodon signs decree to engage armed forces in fight against COVID-19

The personnel of the Ministry of Defense will become involved in the struggle to contain the COVID-19 infection on Moldova’s territory. A decree to allow service members to take part in the relevant activities to support the Government in its efforts to fight the pandemic was signed by President Igor Dodon on March 24, IPN reports.

The length of the military service in the National Army is extended until the lifting of the state of emergency. The drafting process is stopped until then.

When need be, the Ministry of Defense will provide logistic support to the medical personnel involved in the management of the situation. The service members will also assist the Ministry of Home Affairs in implementing measures to stop the spread of the virus. They will patrol public places to ensure the social distancing measures are respected and to prevent elderly people and children from going out.

If necessary, the service members will provide assistance to the elderly people so that these do not have to leave home.
