“The President of the Republic of Moldova does not consider that Moldova should declare a day of national mourning following the death of a leader or a monarch of another state,” the presidential press service said after Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu requested that December 16 should be declared a day of national mourning in memory of His Majesty King Mihai I of Romania, IPN reports.
“With all due respect for the neighboring state and the Romanian people, we transmit once again our condolences in connection with the death of King Mihai I,” Carmena Sterpu, consultant of the presidential press service, wrote on a social networking site.
Head of Parliament Andrian Candu on December 14 announced he made a request to President Igor Dodon to declare December 16 a day of national mourning. “Given the history that connects us with the royal family, it would be good to declare the day when His Majesty King Mihai I will be buried a day of national mourning,” stated Andrian Candu.
