President Dodon has new meeting with EU ambassadors

Moldova’s President Igor Dodon on March 14 had a meeting with resident ambassadors of the EU member states in Chisinau, IPN reports, quoting a press release.

Igor Dodon and the EU ambassadors discussed the political, economic and social actions of the recent past and the activities planned to be carried out by the presidential administration in the nearest future. The Head of State presented details about the initiative to amend the Constitution in order to increase the President’s powers related to the dissolution of Parliament, about the appointment of ambassadors and the relations with the EU and Russia.

Igor Dodon reasserted the necessity of initiating trilateral format discussions between Moldova, the European Union and the Russian Federation, especially on trade. The issue will be also raised within the visit that the Head of State will make to Moscow this week.

The President reiterated his position concerning the proposals to modify the electoral system. He explained his objections to these changes, noting that the formulated proposals will affect the party system of Moldova, but this is inadmissible.

“I repeated the invitation made to the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini to pay an official visit to Chisinau,” stated Igor Dodon.

The President said that this is the third meeting in such a format and that these meetings will become a tradition.
