President discussed with three high-ranking European officials on a single day
Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, hopes that all the aspects concerning the current stage of relations between the European Union and Moldova will be discussed in detail within the frameworks of the upcoming meeting of the Moldova-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in Luxembourg, as well as at the bilateral meeting between the EU High Representative and President Vladimir Voronin.
The European official expressed this belief in a telephone conversation that he had with President Voronin on June 6.
According to a press statement from the President’s office, during the conversation there were discussed diverse aspects of Moldova’s European integration.
For his part, the president expressed his interest in an open and frank dialogue with the EU in all the areas of cooperation.
The same day, Vladimir Voronin met US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Michael D. Kirby, and Head of the European Commission Delegation to Moldova Cesare de Montis.
According to the President’s office, particular attention during the meeting was paid to the implementation mechanisms of the package of laws concerning the presidential initiatives on economy liberalisation. The president underlined that it is very important for Moldova that these liberal initiatives spur investments and meet international requirements for the prevention of money laundering.
Aspects regarding the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict formed another key part of the discussion. Voronin expressed his belief that an appropriate solution for the conflict will be found in the frameworks of the present negotiation format. In this regard, the head of state emphasised that, besides the generally accepted principles, the settlement must ground on a wide spectrum of solid guaranties offered to the residents of Transnistria, on its unlimited participation in the political, economic and social processes taking place in Moldova.
