President Nicolae Timofti could accept the invitation to go to Gagauzia to take part in the investiture of Bashkan Irina Vlah on condition that he is met and treated there as a head of state, political analyst Anatol Taranu stated for IPN. “I think the President’s team should analyze well the situation and should ultimately decide that the head of state will go there,” he stated.

Commenting on Irina Vlah’s assertion that Nicolae Timofti never visited Gagauzia and the ceremony to inaugurate the Bashkan will be a suitable occasion for the Gagauz people to meet with the President, Anatol Taranu said the head of state does not travel much through the country. “We must understand an important thing from the political system of Moldova: the head of state does not have the powers of an executive and thus travelling through the country is not a functional obligation of Timoftiu,” stated the analyst.

He considers that the head of state can be yet more active in this respect and can travel through the country as the people want to meet with the President. “He definitely could go to Gagauzia as this is a difficult region of Moldova. However, going there, he would have caused expectations and would have been then unable to meet them and would have been thus criticized,” stated Anatol Taranu.

The New Governor of Gagauzia Irina Vlah decided to transform her inauguration into a large-scale ceremony that will involve senior Moldovan officials. The ceremony will be held in the Victory Square in central Comrat so that all those who want can take part. Among the invitees are the ministers, the MPs, the administration of Parliament and President Nicolae Timofti.

The presidential press service didn’t yet say if the head of state will accept the invitation or not. Tomorrow Nicolae Timofti will return from his visit to Turkmenistan.
