President Igor Dodon leaves for Saint Petersburg on May 31 to take part in an economic forum and to meet with high-ranking officials. When he is back, he will convoke the Supreme Security Council and will ask for a report from the director of the Security and Intelligence Service and the minister of foreign affairs about the decision to declare five Russian diplomats as personas non grata in the Republic of Moldova. According to him, the two functionaries should resign because they endangere the state security by their actions, IPN reports.

In a news conference, Igor Dodon said the government’s decision is an action against the Russian Federation and a direct challenge against the potential strategic partnership between the two states and against the restoration of the Moldovan-Russian relations that have improved during the last few months.

“I ordered to convoke the Supreme Security Council to discuss the given issue immediately after I return to Saint Petersburg. Never during the last 25 years and even in the most difficult situations of internal or geopolitical conflicts did the Government of Moldova resort to such a hostile gesture against the Russian Federation,” said President Dodon.

He also said that all these challenges of the Democratic Party and the ‘curators’ from the West, who decided to worsen the situation, will be stopped. “We are ready for any scenarios. We enjoy the people’s support in this regard,” stated Igor Dodon.

He called on the Russian officials not to take hasty decisions as these will not be aimed at the government or the Democratic Party, but will affect the citizens of Moldova.

Five Russian diplomats were declared personas non grata in the Republic of Moldova on May 29. The Moldovan authorities didn’t provide details about the reasons for the expulsion. On May 30, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the expulsion decision was taken based on information provided by the intelligence services.
