President Nicolae Timofti urged the political leaders to take into account the national interest of Moldova – the European integration. The dismissal of the current executive at half of mandate can be followed by early elections, which can affect the country’s pro-European course and cause instability in society, said the head of state. The President’s opinion was stated by his spokesman Vlad Turcanu in a press briefing, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Following the Communist parliamentary opposition’s initiative to give a vote of no confidence to the Government, Nicolae Timofti reiterates his positions and urges maintaining the executive. The President calls on the political leaders to provide support in Parliament to the pro-Western coalition,” stated Vlad Turcanu. On February 28, the Communist faction proposed a censure motion against the Government. The leader of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin said that his party will take part in the formation of a new executive only after early elections. After the Parliament’s sitting, Marian Lupu said that the PDM does not renounce its previous position: Vlad Filat must resign. Otherwise, the Democrats will put forward a censure motion or will support the motion proposed by other MPs. The head of the Liberal faction Ion Hadarca said the Liberal Party will not support the Communists’ motion, but are in favor of the ‘zero variant’ proposal, according to which the Premier and the Speaker should resign so that a new agreement can be negotiated. Valeriu Strelet, the leader of the Liberal-Democratic MPs, said the motion put forward by the Communists is strange as the PCRM says it withdraws the vote of confidence given to the Government. “As far as I know, the Communists didn’t give a vote to the Government headed by Vlad Filat,” he stated. The censure motion against the Government is debated in Parliament in the first sitting of the week that follows the date when the motion is proposed and is adopted by a majority of votes.
