President and Premier meet with Romanian defense minister
Moldova’s President Nicolae Timofti and Prime Minister Vlad Filat Friday had meetings with the Minister of National Defense of Romania Gabriel Oprea, who is in Chisinau on a visit, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the presidential press service, Nicolae Timofti welcomed the signing of the Moldovan-Romanian intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the military sphere. He thanked the Romanian authorities for enabling Moldovan servicemen to study at Romanian education institutions.
For his part, the Romanian minister transmitted the greetings of the Romanian President Traian Basescu, with whom Nicolae Timofti will meet in Bucharest within an official visit that will be paid in the near future. Gabriel Oprea thanked the head of state for the Moldovan authorities’ readiness to rehabilitate the graves of the Romanian soldiers killed in the Second World War, which are located on Moldova’s territory.
In a communiqué, the Government says that the meeting of Vlad Filat and Gabriel Oprea centered on cooperation in the area of national and regional security. The Premier stressed the importance of the cooperation with the Romanian partners and of learning from their experience in the field of state security and defense.
The Romanian official reiterated his country’s readiness to support Moldova in its efforts to improve the qualifications of the military men as it has the necessary experience and capacity. He stressed that the Moldovan-Romanian relations in the military sphere have a good normative basis, with three interstate agreements being signed so far.
