The information technology should be indisputably applied in teaching activity. The role of public libraries in the digital era remains the same – to transmit the love for the book, reading and creation, Andrei Chistol, secretary of state at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, stated in the opening of the international conference “Development of cooperation of European libraries in virtual space” that is held in Chisinau on November 1 and 2, IPN reports.
Elena Pintilei, director of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova, said the presence of a library in the virtual environment is necessary for ensuring cooperation with other institutions working in the field. For readers, this fact is important because they obtain online access to books and other documents. “The number of sources integrated into the digital library increases annually. Since 2010, we have digitized over 5,000 documents. Almost 1,000 of these are books,” stated Elena Pintilei.
“Novateca” program director Evan Tracz noted that starting with 2010 the public libraries of Moldova have been assisted in implementing modern technology and innovatory services. “Everything we did together in the course of these years is remarkable. During several years we have spoken about successes, a model for developing the institutions of culture. The library becomes a community center that is indispensable to a community,” said Evan Tracz.
During November 1-2, Chisinau is hosting a series of meetings centering on the consolidation and development of libraries. These involve representatives of the national libraries of Romania, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Sweden, managers of national, departmental and local bibliotechonomic centers and libraries. On November 2, there will be held the annual forum of managers from the national system of libraries in connection with the 185th anniversary of the foundation of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova.
