The preschool education conception must be changed so that emphasis is placed on the formation of learning skills in children, Lia Sclifos manager of the project “Global Partnership for Education in Moldova”, which is implemented by the Ministry of Education of Moldova in partnership with the World Bank and UNICEF, said in the program “Place for dialogue” on the public station Radio Moldova, IPN reports
Lia Sclifos stated that besides the renovation of nurseries, the project’s team also lays stress on making these schools child-friendly so that they develop social abilities, learning skills, curiosity and creativity in children. A principle is to intensify cooperation between nursery schools and parents. “Our studies show that the number of parents who read the goodnight story to children over the last two years rose from 5% to 70%. This is mainly due to the cooperation between nurseries and parents. In the future, we will implement education strategies for parents,” said the project manager.
In the same program, Lia Sclifos said that during the last two years, there were renovated 33 of the 100 preschool institutions that are in need of repair. Ten of these institutions were reopened after being closed for almost 20 years.
According to a study made by the team of the project “Global Partnership for Education in Moldova”, 80 villages in Moldova do not have nursery schools now. In 17 of these villages, there are no children, while in another 30 settlements there are by at most five children.
