Preparations for World Cleanup 2012 underway

Volunteer groups and organizations from different countries are initiating a global action called World Cleanup 2012, with the aim of cleaning up illegal garbage in 100 countries and raising people's awareness worldwide, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Association “Hai Moldova”. The global action was commenced by the civic movement Let’s do it! that started in 2008 in Estonia, where 50 000 people came together to clean up 10 000 tons of illegal garbage in just 5 hours. By now more than 2 million volunteers have participated in cleanup actions in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, India, Slovenia, Serbia, Finland, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine, Cambodia, Russia, Hungary and Brazil. The number of volunteers involved in Moldova was 113 000 this April. More cleanups are being prepared in new countries for 2012. From March 24 until September 25, a series of cleanups will sweep over the globe, touching all continents and bringing together millions of people who will be cleaning up their homes. The preparations for the campaign are already underway and involve teams from almost 60 countries.
