At its 14th edition this year, the Night of Museums will take place on May 19. A large-scale cultural event dedicated to museums, the Night of Museums invites the public to discover the cultural offer of the museums of Moldova. Access to the museums by midnight will be free. About 80,000 lei was allocated from the state budget for organizing this event, Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc was quoted by IPN as saying.
“I invite you to be near us on the Night of Museums at national and district museums. I invite you to be our guests. Don’t miss these preparations and extraordinary work. I assure you the children will have unique and indescribable experiences. The new knowledge, images and emotions you will acquire will ensure good mood for a long period of time,” stated Monica Babuc.
For the first time, the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich” will host a ceremony devoted to museographers, starting at 3pm on May 18. The Soroca Fortress will play host to a board theatrical program in which all the visitors could take part. As the previous years, each museum prepared a special program for this event. There will be mounted new exhibitions, different workshops for parents and children. Classical music will be played in most of the museum halls.
The program at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova will start at 6pm and will last by midnight. The program includes tours of permanent and temporary exhibitions, an exhibition of interactive and augmented reality arts, recitals of classical music, a performance by singer Geta Burlacu, drawing workshops for children and adults. “The way in which the number of museums rises makes us think that there will be by a museum in each community as these educate children in the spirit of cultural values,” said the director of the National Museum of Arts Tudor Zbarnea.
The National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History will inaugurate the musical pavilion (Romanian “foisor”) in the institution’s Botanical Garden following conservation and restoration works. This is a national monument built in 1889. It was designed by architect Alexandru Bernardazzi. “There will be a lot of music and joy there. We invite everyone. There will be screenings of sequences about museums and craftsmen who will make clay articles,” said the Museum’s director Petru Vicol.
In Moldova there are 124 museums. Six of these, with 12 branches, are national museums. 94 museums are managed by the local authorities. 19 museums are housed by ministries and other institutions, while five are private.
