A performance dedicated to Russian prose writer and playwright Anton Chekhov and his characters, 120 years after his death, will be presented at the theatre bearing his name in Chisinau. In the Republic of Moldova, the play “The Chekhov Machine” will be an absolute premiere of Matei Vișniec’s dramaturgy in Russian. The production directed by Petru Vutcărău will be premiered on March 2 and 3, at 6 p.m., IPN reports.

Representatives of the Russian drama theatre said that the French-Romanian playwright Matei Vișniec and director Petru Vutcarau challenge the spectators, offering a play in which the characters, who were for thousands of times “dissected” by theatre critics and theoreticians, suddenly find themselves together, on the same stage, creating a provocative show.

“The meeting of Chekhov’s literary heroes with the author will dispel all clichés, will induce other circumstances, will trigger other actions and a different pace of events. Everyone will have the opportunity to see an impressive and original show, which, like any other production by Petru Vutcărău, will make the audience to get out of their comfort zone,” said the theater’s troupe.

The performance “The Chekhov Machine” will be the first in a series of events dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Chekhov Theatre, which will be celebrated in November 2024.
