Premier urges remembering feat of Chernobyl accident victims
Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that the deed of the victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster is a call to remember the fatal explosion that affected the whole world, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a message issued by the Premier.
“More than 3 500 Moldovans took part in the Chernobyl cleanup and 672 of them died. These people’s lives were divided up into two – before Chernobyl and after Chernobyl,” reads the message.
As many as 2 500 of the participants in the Chernobyl cleanup who are alive are invalids. 1 729 children were born in their families after the accident and 73 of them are disabled.
According to specialists, the effects of the nuclear disaster will be felt for at least 300 years more and radioactive clouds will continue to appear during the next 50 years.
On April 26, 2012 it is 26 years of the Chernobyl accident, which was one of the most serious catastrophes in the world. It caused more than 7 million people to suffer.
