Premier to invite organizers of protest to dialog

Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici on May 4 will invite the organizers of the recent protest to discussions so that they present their demands to him. “It is in the interest of the Government to solve the crisis in the financial-banking system and to stabilize the economic situation in the country, including by making public the Kroll report, if the company ultimately gives its consent,” said the Premier, IPN reports.

According to a communique of the Government’s Communication and Relations with the Media Office, in the evening of May 3 the Prime Minister called a working meeting with representatives of the institutions responsible for maintaining public order. The meeting centered on the sociopolitical situation in the country and involved ministers, managers of law enforcement institutions and of related institutions.

Chiril Gaburici listened to the reports presented by the managers of the law enforcement institutions and requested the other participants in the discussions to pronounce on the possible challenges and situation destabilization risks. He then asked ensuring the observance of the people’s rights, not allowing aggressive responses to the possible provocations and attempts to destabilize the situation and taking the measures needed to provide the people with services of a high quality and to make sure that their legal interests are not hampered.

The Premier called on the responsible institutions to monitor the situation and maintain public order so as not to allow violence and mass disorder, disruptions to the work of state institutions and possible attempts to vandalize or devastate their head offices. He also asked the competent services to prevent external forces from interfering, including possible cyber-attacks.

In this connection, Chiril Gaburici requested the administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs to train the police, rescuers and firefighters so that these communicate with the people strictly within the law.

At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister called for calm, underlining the necessity of maintaining stability in the country and respecting the people’s interests.

On May 3, more than 40,000 people mounted a protest against the corrupt government, large-scale thefts and the transformation of the stolen money into state debt and against the politically controlled media. The event was organized by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”.
