Premier to be questioned at National Anticorruption Center

Prime Minister Vlad Filat and a number of Cabinet members and lawmakers will be questioned in the criminal case opened against the director of the Main State Tax Inspectorate Nicolae Vicol, the chief of the National Anticorruption Center Viorel Chetraru said in a press briefing on February 18, Info-Prim Neo reports. Viorel Chetraru said that pressure started to be exerted on the Center after it became known that there will be questioned persons holding high-ranking posts who are suspected of acts of corruption. “We have clear evidence showing that acts of traffic of influence were exerted on the director of the Main State Tax Inspectorate,” he stated. He also said that he will not yield to pressure, regardless of its kind. “I will protect the National Anticorruption Center and its employees from the pressure that will be exerted on them. I’m ready to cope with the attacks that will be made against me. I ask publicly to allow us to do our duty,” said Viorel Chetraru. Nicolae Vicol was arrested on February 15. He is suspected of committing a number of offenses, including passive corruption, abuse of power, and violation of the inviolability of private life (wiretapping).
