Premier sums up results of visit to Brussels

Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici returned from Brussels, where he took part in the first meeting of the Moldova – EU Association Council. In a press briefing at the airport, the head of the Government said they discussed Moldova’s accomplishments as well as its failures and the next steps that need to be taken. Chiril Gaburici had meetings with a number of EU and NATO officials and with representatives of the diaspora, IPN reports.

Chiril Gaburici said that in the meeting with the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, he received a message of support, while in the meeting with the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, it was agreed that better cooperation will be promoted, especially in the area of national security. It was also agreed that the secretary general will pay a visit to Moldova in the near future and that a NATO office will be opened in Chisinau.

As to the meeting with representatives of the diaspora, the Premier said there are people who are ready to help the country even if they are abroad. “I encouraged them to promote our country abroad and to also promote the EU in Moldova through their relatives,” he stated.

Chiril Gaburici also took part in the Summit of the European People’s Party, where they discussed the steps that the Moldovan authorities must take until the EaP Summit of Riga. “It was a productive visit that will produce results in the near future,” he stated.

The Premier’s visit to Brussels started on March 16.
