Premier slams anti-corruption squad

Prime minister Zinaida Greceanai appreciated the work of the Economic Crimes and Corruption Combating Center (ECCCC) as insufficient and calls the officers get more involved in reducing the level of corruption, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the press service of the Government. A report on the ECCCC’s work in 2008 was made Friday at a sitting of the squad attended by premier Zinaida Greceanai. ECCCC’s chief Sergiu Burduja highlighted numerous drawbacks in the work of his employees, saying this has lead to recording modest results and did not allow reaching the expected goals. Zinaida Greceanai said that the situation in fighting corruption can be improved and the Government started to implement the Country Threshold Program, the main goal of which is reducing the scourge of corruption. The ECCCC has one of the most important missions in realizing this plan. The prime minister specified “it is necessary that, in preventing corruption acts, the accent should be laid on analyzing and assessing risks,” adding that the squad can use databases about the crime’s activity. She underlined that “the priority for the officers this year is to make common front with society to counteract corruption and protectionism.” Zinaida Greceanai ended by saying that the state’s leadership will pay increased attention to the work of the ECCCC.
